Austin and the USS Arizona

Way to go Austin for being an inquirer by visiting the USS Arizaona and a few other WWII landmarks while he was in Hawaii on a cruise.  That is just such a knowledgable thing to do.  (How many learner profiles do you think I can squeeze into this blog?) I guess it wasn't just fun in the sun! I am a little jealous that he was able to experience and  see where some very major events in our world's history have taken place.

Here is our dear Austin and his family:

Here is Austin, his dad, and his lil sis at the USS Arizona Memorial!
**Look at how caring he is being!

Here we have Austin giving up his day job as a student to become a real Navy man.  We will have to ask him which he prefers. Is this his way of being a risk taker? Or how about open minded? I think he will be reflective when he comes back and tells us all about it!

Mr. Johnson would be so proud! Look at that Patriotism!

Austin! We can't wait until you get back and tell us all about your adventures! Well, and so we can give you a whole bunch of homework to make up for all the fun you had while you were gone! See you soon!

Here are a few other things to note:
Box tops are due 1/25
Dress Down Day is 1/28 (Friday)
Science Fair is Friday, 1/28 1:30-4:00 in the gym
The Student Body Officers and going to the Charter Fair at the Utah State Capital this Thursday to represent our school!

Here is the challenge for this post:  What learner profiles did I miss in this post?
Whoever is the first to let me know is the proud owner of 15 busy bucks!

The End of Feudalism???

Alright, alright! Yes, you are correct, Feudalism ended centuries ago.  It was reborn in our classroom, and will be coming to an end tomorrow, Friday the 20th.  However, you will be able to continue the privileges you have earned until Friday of next week.

All my students should be so proud of the fantastic projects that they have created, and all they have learned through this process.  Mostly, we should all be grateful that we did not live in this time period- especially as serfs!
Remember: Students who have higher positions in the feudal system- don't abuse your powers and privileges! The High Queen will have something to say about it!

Have you heard that the sock fairy is not steeling your socks, but it is the infamous Alot?

In our class we have come across a funny way to look at improper grammar.  We know that a lot is two different words.  We have decided that when we see a lot spelled incorrectly as (alot) our Alot turns into a mystical creature.  Here are two examples of Alots.

Here is example number one.  When a person says: "I like this popsicle alot" We think: " I like this popsicle, alot"  It is as if that person was talking to our friend the Alot.
 Here is example number two:
When someone says: "WOW! That is alot of popsicles" We think- "WOW, that is Alot of popsicles"
At this point our magical creature then becomes what ever joins him in the sentence.  This Alot is probably much tastier than Alot of dirt. (So, sorry no pictures were available- the Alot of dirt is rather shy)

If by any chance you are wondering what on earth I am talking about please ask you child and they would be more than happy to explain how the Alot came to be.

And please feel free to poke as much fun at my drawings as you would like! :)

The Magical Mystical Moon

We have begun our study of the changing moon and why it has phases.  The students in our class will be tracking the phases every night as homework for the next 3 weeks.

The inversion may pose a problem and if it does, please go to :
www.calculatorcat.com/moon_phases/phasenow.php to see the daily moon phase.

Here's how it works:  (Pretty cool, huh!)
